Who Am I Really?

The identification with who we believe we are, something we commonly call our identity, is nothing more than an invisible psychological prison.

We are not what we believe we are; we are only what we think we are. Our vision of who we are creates our reality and defines the person we are.

Even so, although it may seem very simple, it is not entirely under our control, because we are not really what we believe we are; we are what we believe the other person thinks we are. This means that we are actually the reflection of what we project towards the other person, multiplied by how that person is in themselves and how they treat others.

This may sound complex and confusing, but it is not. So let’s break it down. The first thing to understand is that a person can never really know you; they only know what they believe or see in you. If you project an image of value, they will see a valuable person. And if you project an image of evil, they will see an evil person. The second part is that you also cannot know how that person really sees you; you can only deduce it from details. And in front of that result is how you will act; that is, if that person is valuing you, you will act with value. And if that person treats you, for example, as if you were someone who asks too many questions, you will act by asking too many questions. The conclusion is that, as I said before, we are only what we project to the other person that we are. If that person sees your projection as valuable and you perceive that through them, then that is how you will act and, consequently, be. In that cycle, it depends a lot on how that person is in themselves and how they treat others, because if they do not value other people, then they will not show you that you have value and, therefore, you will not feel that you have value.

For this reason, it is so important to very carefully select the people you surround yourself with, who are people who value you, who do not judge you, and who know how to see all the good in you, even knowing the bad.

We are only a projection of our mind; we are actors in this world, to whom different roles and roles are assigned that we act out subconsciously.

That is why it is also so important not only the people around us, but also our environment. What is our environment? What kind of society do we live in? In what kind of house do we live? What things surround us? What is the knowledge I learn from? What are my standards of values?… All of this defines the character we will play in different stages of our life. Today we can be poor and tomorrow rich, or vice versa. It is our vision of our character that will make us be that character.

You are not the person you believe you are; you are not the one who was born in that neighborhood and grew up with the kids in the neighborhood, you are not the one who learned from the streets or the one who went to the best schools; you are only what you have believed to be. You are only your memories, you are only the character you have learned, its story and which you have internalized.

You are not limited by your life; your limits are only those you impose on yourself.

The limits of your own vision, every time you say “I can’t”, every time you repeat “I am not” and every time you settle for “I don’t know”.

What stops you from being what you want to be? Are you missing an arm, a brain, a leg, hands?… You are missing nothing; you have the same as the rest. What then differentiates you from those people you would like to be? Only what you have in your head, which is different from what the other person has: ideas, beliefs, knowledge… And what stops you from taking the ideas, beliefs or knowledge you want to have and internalize? Nothing, only you stop yourself.

So, stop waiting for a miracle to happen. Stop waiting for things to change one day. Stop complaining… If you want something in life, go for it, because again, you are your own and only limitation.
